Late Texana Bed This inviting, four poster, king size bed is visually enhanced by raised panels of spalted Texas pecan. Spalting refers to fine lined black veins and a marbled effect that can appear in wood that has been attacked by certain micro-organisms after a tree has died. This, less than pleasant sounding process, can actually result in unusual and beautifully figured lumber that can be very difficult to find. I located this wood at a local mill a few miles east of Austin, Texas and was able to effectively display it in the head and footboards of this bed. Posts, frames, and side rails are black walnut.
