Whales
|
The whale gourds are hand-painted with various coloring pens. Many employ a process whereby the pigment is scratched off to reveal the design. The side flippers are made from the tail-fluke cut-outs. Upon completion, the gourds are given a seal coat, then finished with a lacquer to give a durable finish.
The whales are based on actual whales, and have the markings accurately depicted. The gourd shape only lends itself readily to two whale species. The Sperm whale is the one with the straight-line mouth. The Right whale has a mouth line that makes a zig-zag.
These whale gourds do not have the seeds in them. They are sturdy, however are not toys, and should not be given to unsupervised children.
