These gourds are painted in a variety of animal and geometric motifs. Many of the designs are revealed by scraping the pigment from the gourd.
They are then sealed and a spray lacquer is applied giving a durable finish. The seeds remain in most of these gourds, and they make excellent rattles. They are fairly durable, but should not be given to unsupervised children.
