I offer basic and intermediate computer instruction for those living in the central Texas area.  I don't want to travel too far, so we're mainly talking the cities of Austin, Lockhart, and Bastrop, and the countryside between them.

You will get one-on-one, personal instructions on how to use and operate your computer (PC's only, running Windows 95/98).  This will be done at your home (or business), on your machine, using your software, and addressing your particular computing needs.  Each session will last approximately three hours and cost $60.

You determine what it is that you want to learn and the pace you want to learn at.  I understand that to a person coming to computers for the first time, it can all seem a bit overwhelming, but we will go over the basics as often as necessary to ensure that you are familiar with Windows and basic computer operations.  I have you move the mouse, type on the keyboard, and learn to use your computer -- not just watch me do it.

You will learn by doing and repetition, with me coaching you (and observing to prevent you from making a perhaps costly mistake).  Since everyone learns at a different rate, we will cover as much as we can in a three hour session, and you can schedule another session (entirely at your convenience) when you are ready for more instruction.  And most importantly, I'll show you how to use Window's own built-in help system, and provide other sources of help.

I'll show you how to optimize your system for peak performance, and how to keep it that way (the basic, mundane maintenance that keeps your machine humming.)  And I'll show you how to customize Windows to fit you and your style.  There are almost countless settings and tweaks you can make to your system to best suit you -- and make you master of your machine -- at least in how it looks and works.

After you learn the basics (or perhaps you have had a computer for awhile and already know the basic operations), we can start to address your particular computing needs.  Everyone uses their computer differently, depending on what it is they want the computer to do for them.  I am familiar with a wide range of software and can help you understand how to use your programs to accomplish what you want your computer to do for you.  Whatever your interests are, there is probably some way the computer can help you.  (And I'll probably show you some things you didn't know you could use a computer for.)

If you've got a computer, there's no excuse not to be on the Internet.  I'll show you how to surf the web, send e-mail, and read newsgroups.  There is more information, entertainment, and downright weirdness and goofiness than you could ever investigate.  But the Internet is so much more; with commerce (you can easily and safely buy stuff over the Internet) and many useful services for you to use (check on that package, book a flight, etc.).  Millions of people are busy everyday inventing new uses and services for the Internet -- be a part of it.

I'm no expert, and don't know everything, but I've been messing with computers for over 20 years.  I've made (and solved) most of the mistakes so you don't have to.  I'm also no repairman (hardware or software), but if you have a situation, and I think I can address it, I'll do what I can, as part of a regular session.

If you're thinking of getting a computer, your first session could be me setting up your new computer (and peripherals) and introducing you to it.  And if you've had your computer for awhile, but are still not using it much (it's just a hi-tech paperweight) -- let me show you how to get some use out of it.  They really are clever and almost limitless devices.

A three hour computer instruction session makes an excellent gift for that someone you know who is having difficulties with their computer.  To schedule a computer instruction session for yourself or a friend, you may , or call me at (512) 559-2614.
