 kitchen makeover
Here is an example of a kitchen make-over. I added the end cabinet that makes the countertop into an L-shape, visually defining the kitchen area while providing storage, both in the kitchen and in the dining area (with the open shelves).
All of the cabinet doors and drawer fronts were replaced with birch plywood overlay doors and drawer fronts with new semi-concealed hinges and pulls. They were edged with wood tape, and the cabinets (exclusive of doors and drawers) were painted. If the cabinets themselves are sound, this is an excellent way to obtain a fresh, contemporary look while keeping costs down.
I also installed the coved laminate tops on this project, but no longer do on-site laminate work. However, I still do plenty of shop laminate work, building separate laminate tops (for stand-alone cabinets such as vanities, etc.) and the occasional fully laminate-covered cabinet (example next photo).
