Go Fish!

Benefit Party for Jim Fish
(Held on Sept. 27, 2003 in S. Austin at Pickle Compound)

Jim and Therese greeting their guests A Heartfelt Thanks

Therese and I would like to thank all of our friends (and many well-wishers) who so generously donated to Jim's medical needs fund.  I am overwhelmed by the amount of concern and affection that everyone has shown.

Therese and I had a magnificent time.  I tried to visit with everyone — but I know that many were overlooked.  I apologize to those I missed, and want all to know that I appreciate the concern and donations of everyone who participated.

I know that I am truly blessed to have such friends.  I realize that not everyone is lucky enough to have something like a "Fish Fry", organized for them — at least while they are still kickin'.  I don't know as I deserve it, but I truly appreciate it.

I've been telling everyone that for me, the benefit party was like attending your own wake — without the inconvenience of being dead.  Everyone says nice things to, and about you — there's plenty of beer, food, music and friends — and at the end, you get a wad of money.  I highly recommend a benefit to everyone  ;-)

Our Hosts

First and foremost, I need to thank the organizers and hosts of the event.  As I get the story, Ken Boone and Rob Light met with Randy Beck to kick over some ideas on how they could help me with finances after I suffered a mild heart attack  (a mild one is any you can walk away from  ;-)

Jerry Hartung was brought on-board, and this core group proceeded to organize the Go Fish! benefit party.  Of course this core group needed their henchmen, and enlisted the aid of Nora Boone, Maggie Massey Hartung, Mike Boone (aka PigPen), and Carl Creeger.  I am sure that others contributed as well.

I think the organizers all did a fantastic job, everyone contributing as their skills warranted.  Ken and the band were great.  I've been listening to them for 25 years, and they just keep getting better.  PigPen did a great job on the bar-b-q and Nora did a great job with all the fixin's.  Rob provided a necessary service  (someone had to collect the donations), and provided a thoughtful touch with the guest book and the photos of arriving guests.  Jerry and Maggie provided a great setting.

I know that a lot of time, effort, and money went into the Go Fish! benefit — and the results showed it.  Great food — plenty of finger-lickin' brisket, chicken, and links from South Austin's self-proclaimed Mayor, PigPen — and mouth-watering side dishes from Nora.  Great music from the Ken Boone band — I overheard more than once how good the band sounded from the obviously delighted guests.  Lots of cold beer. And lots of good friends.  A fine time was had by all in an easy-going, relaxed South Austin manner.  Still, I guess we're getting old — no police came — no obvious drunks — no fistfights — and we broke up by 11:00.  ;-)

Ken Boone and the band The Band

Special thanks must be given to the band.  Ken Boone and his band MADE the event.  Everyone enjoyed their brand of showmanship and musical talent.  The many original songs were especially appreciated.

The band consists of  (and I thank each and every one for entertaining us so well):

• Ken Boone -- lead guitar and vocals
• Charlie Boone -- guitar and vocals
• Bruce Kirk -- bass guitar
• Chris Higgs -- Hammond B3 organ
• Sam Pulley -- drums

Need any Internet work?

Since I am most likely going to have to limit  (perhaps severely) strenuous physical activity, I will have to derive much more of my income through my Internet and website activities.  If you, or someone you know, needs a web site constructed for their business, or needs a consultant for Internet matters — please visit the Rancho Mondo website  ( http://www.ranchomondo.com/ ).  There you can find links to websites I have done.

Or, if your needs are smaller — a web presence such as these benefit pages can be done for birthdays, reunions, anniversaries, etc.  I can be reached by email at:  or by phone at: 1-512-559-2614.
